goldcard member.

i seriously think i am starbucks’ dream customer.  i admit i have totally fallen into their marketing trap.  i love coffee (and i’m pretty sure if you have read my blog for longer than a week i have probably talked about how much i love the stuff).  i have to have coffee almost every morning; mostly out of necessity to stay awake and partly due to the routine of it.  even if i get 12 hours of sleep, the routine of going to a coffeeshop (particularly starbucks) is one i love.  i will be late to places just to get my coffee.  (i know what you are thinking and yes, i am one of those obnoxious people.)  but it’s usually for everyone else’s benefit because i am a sleepy crank-monster without my daily fix (or so i tell myself as an excuse to get it everyday).  reis asked me out on our first date at a coffeeshop in santa barbara so maybe that’s why i have even more reason to love the atmosphere of these cozy cafes.

in 2009 i became a gold member of starbucks; one of the sweet perks is getting that cool card (above) and a free drink of any size every 15 drinks you buy.  i have a pretty sweet little schedule of buying coffee and getting rewarded for it.  it is a bit of a costly habit, but it’s worth it to me.  so here’s my coffee sched:  my daily drink is usually an iced coffee which is about $2.30 for a grande i think (one of the cheaper drinks on the menu).  if i get this everyday for 2 weeks (weekends included) + 1 day, i get sent one of these bad boys (see below).  with my free drink, i normally get a “sweet” drink as i call it.  i LOVE skinny caramel macchiatos more than you know so i’ll splurge on one of those with my reward card.  this system is great because not only are sweet drinks almost $5 for a grande, but they also aren’t the healthiest for you if you know what i mean.  so in my world, my little coffee system is a great balance of splurging and saving (in cals and money)!

breakfast at bogart’s.

saturday morning we had breakfast at bogart’s.  (i’ve raved about it before here.)  we are the most indecisive couple when it comes to deciding where to eat.  i admit, it’s 98% my fault considering reis will eat anything and everything and i am the picky one who doesn’t like eggs (which rules out lots of breakfast places), fish (rules out lots of dinner places), and a billion other foods.  oops.  after i-kid-you-not an hour and a half, we decided on bogart’s!  except when we got there, their kitchen was backed up 25 minutes and since we already wasted way too much time deciding where to go, we were over it and just got coffee (caramel macchiato for reis//latte for me) and blueberry scones.  i know i’ve said it before, but if you ever come to oahu, you HAVE to go here.  for breakfast or lunch, it is so delish!  but be willing to wait awhile, it’s a popular zone.

coffee dates.

my weekend was filled with lots of these.  and i loved it.  saturday morning maddie and i had a coffee date at starbucks and it was SO good to catch up and hang out with her.  (she lives in washington and i haven’t seen her since like 2007.)  then later in the afternoon i met my friend ashley at chadlou’s, an adorable coffeeshop in kailua that one of my very good friends opened last year!  if you live on the island, you should go there.  now.  reasons you should go?  it is so dang cute, they have good coffee AND good food (and cookie/ice cream sandwiches!), and its the perfect place to chat with friends or to study or do work.  (and since i practically lived in coffeeshops when i was in college, i’m a pretty good source for coffeeshop ratings.  trust me.)  plus, its next door to some really cute boutiques if you need a study break and want to shop :)

i love coffeeshop dates with friends.  they are kinda my fave.

typical sunday.

i really love sundays.  mostly because we get to see most of our friends, get out of honolulu, go to the beach, and relax in the country.
yesterday was a pretty typical sunday for me and reis:
we drove up to the north shore.
we stopped in haleiwa at our favorite cafe to eat breakfast.
went to church.
he surfed after.
i took a nap. (yes, i have my own personal hammock thanks to reis’ dad!)
we drove back to town.
and got more coffee along the way.
perfect day.
